About Newark
Newark is a vibrant college town in northern Delaware, best known as the home of the University of Delaware. Located just west of Wilmington near the Pennsylvania state line, Newark combines a lively downtown district with easy access to parks, forests, and regional trail systems. Its walkable Main Street corridor, extensive parklands, and nearby greenways make Newark a welcoming stop for cyclists and pedestrians traveling through the region.
Trail Access
In Newark, the 9/11 National Memorial Trail passes through northern Delaware as it links the Philadelphia region with communities along the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal corridor. Approaching from the northeast, the route follows a combination of bike-friendly roads and shared-use paths before entering Newark near the University of Delaware campus.
Within the city, the memorial trail connects with portions of the East Coast Greenway, which overlaps with the 9/11 National Memorial Trail through parts of northern Delaware.
