About Easton
Easton sits at the Forks of the Delaware, where the Lehigh River meets the Delaware at the Pennsylvania and New Jersey line. The county seat of Northampton County, it grew as a canal and railroad town, and that industrial corridor is now the trail network the city is built around. Downtown centres on Centre Square, a short walk from the riverfront and the confluence itself. The city is a hub for the D&L Trail, the Two Rivers Trailway and the Karl Stirner Arts Trail along Bushkill Creek, and is working with the Greater Easton Development Partnership and the Trust for Public Land on the Easton Highline Park, an elevated park on a disused trestle with a downtown trailhead and a 1.5-mile extension of the Two Rivers Trailway.
Trail Access
The 9/11 National Memorial Trail runs directly through downtown Easton — the route passes within about 170 feet of Centre Square, making this one of the closest downtown approaches anywhere on the trail. Approaching from the south the route follows the D&L Trail along the Lehigh, then moves onto city streets through the centre — Larry Holmes Drive along the riverfront, Northampton Street and 3rd Street — before continuing north on the Two Rivers Trailway and Bushkill Drive. Within two miles of the square the route is roughly 2.9 miles off-road and 3.7 miles on-road, so expect a mix of towpath and town riding. The Northampton Street bridge crosses to Phillipsburg, New Jersey.
