Alliance Participates in 2026 Hill Day on Capitol Hill

Representatives from the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance traveled to Capitol Hill on April 29, 2026, to participate in the 2026 Hill Day hosted in partnership with the National Park Foundation.

Throughout the day, Alliance representatives met with Congressional staff from several offices, including those of Representative LaMonica McIver (NJ-10), Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Representative Andy Harris (MD-01), and other Congressional leaders, to discuss the continued importance of the 9/11 National Memorial Trail and its role in connecting communities through remembrance, education, and recreation.
The meetings provided an opportunity to highlight the Trail’s ongoing development, its economic and tourism impact across participating states, and the importance of federal partnerships that support public access, trail connectivity, and preservation initiatives.
In addition to advocacy meetings, participants attended Hill Day briefings and networking events with national partners committed to strengthening America’s public lands and trail systems.
The visit also included a moment of reflection at the memorial plaque honoring the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, whose actions on September 11, 2001, helped prevent a possible attack on the Capitol in Washington, D.C. The moment underscored the Alliance’s mission to preserve the stories, places, and legacy connected to 9/11 through the development of the Trail.
The Alliance extends its appreciation to the National Park Foundation and all participating organizations for convening this year’s Hill Day events and fostering conversations around the importance of public lands, trails, and historical preservation.
