The September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance held its third annual meeting at the League of American Bicyclists headquarters in Washington, D.C. on March 27-29, 2014. The Alliance was especially appreciative of LAB providing such good facilities. Sept.11NMTA President David Brickley noted, “League of American Bicyclists President Andy Clarke and Vice President Bill Nesper and their staff went out of their way to make our meeting a great success. It’s wonderful to have such outstanding partners.”
The retreat started on Thursday with the unveiling of the Alliance’s new Pentagon Memorial Trail Circuit map/guide at the National Park Service’s Columbia Island Marina across from the Pentagon. The new map/guide was produced with the generous financial and publicity support from Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources. Special thanks were extended to Dominion Resources’ Deborah Johnson and Chuck Penn. Joe Montano, Senator Tim Kaine’s representative, and Arlington County Board Member Libby Garvey joined cyclists and supporters in the map/guide’s launch. After the official program, the gathering walked to the Pentagon Memorial to pay their respects. The Pentagon Memorial Foundation has been a consistent supporter of the Alliance’s efforts to recognized those heroes of 9/11.
One entire day was spent at LAB headquarters updating the Alliance’s strategic plan and electing new officers for the upcoming year. The meeting’s success was assured due to the excellent facilitation by the National Park Service’s Peggy Ping and Stephanie Tepperberg.
