Our History

The September 11th National Memorial Trail was conceived to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The trail creates a lasting tribute by connecting the three National Memorials: the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City, the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, and the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Federally designated by Congress in 2021, the trail utilizes existing pathways, greenways, and trails across multiple states, creating a continuous route that serves multiple purposes: as a memorial, an educational resource, and a recreational pathway.
