Welcome, and thank you for visiting the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance website. I want to share my excitement with you on the 1,140-mile multi-purpose trail that is being planned. The trail will be an unbroken non-motorized trail and greenway connecting New York City’s National September 11 Memorial, the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia and the Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The September 11th National Memorial Trail is dedicated to our country’s resilience and perseverance in the name of freedom on September 11, 2001 and the years after.
From the earliest days at Valley Forge, through the struggle to preserve our nation during the War of 1812, to the growth of industry and modern society; the trail represents the values of our nation and demonstrates that liberty can never be broken. This is a journey to enjoy, recreate and reflect; not unlike those ancient trails in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
We hope that you will consider joining our organization as we partner with the National Park Service and state and local governments as well as with our many friends such as the East Coast Greenway. The “9/11 Trail” overlays the East Coast Greenway from New York to Virginia; the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal National Historical Park from Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C.; and the Liberty Water Gap Trail across New Jersey. It will also connect with those historic and cultural points of interest which reflect the theme of our trail, all the time promoting an abundance of tourism, economic and health benefits.
Our trail is for all ages and experiences; be it for an afternoon with the family or through- hiking the entire route. We thank you for your support in making the September 11th National Memorial Trail one of the great long-distance trails for all to experience.
Come join our effort.
